You built a website in HTML/CSS/JS — maybe for a client, maybe for university. Here is the path from your laptop to a live URL.
The golden rule: index.html The server shows index.html (or index.php) as the homepage of any folder. Your main page MUST be named exactly that — lowercase, in the root of public_html.
Method 1: ZIP upload (fastest) 1. Zip your site folder (the CONTENTS at top level, not the folder inside a folder) 2. Upload the ZIP in the hosting file manager 3. Extract it there 4. Visit your URL
Method 2: drag and drop Open the file manager, drag your files in. Fine for small sites; slower for hundreds of files.
The classic gotchas - Case sensitivity: Logo.PNG ≠ logo.png on the server. Your site worked on Windows and breaks live — this is why - Absolute paths: C:\Users\you\site\image.jpg in your code never works; use relative paths (images/photo.jpg) - Wrong folder: files nested one level too deep — the homepage loads at yoursite.com/site/index.html instead of the root - Missing uploads folder: images referenced but never uploaded
After it loads - Click every page once — broken images and 404s show up fast - Check it on your phone - Add your real domain when ready; SSL turns on automatically
A Launch trial (free for 30 days) is enough for the whole exercise — code, upload, live URL, portfolio link. That is the entire ceremony.
