How to install WordPress on your hosting (and the 5 settings to change first)
Install WordPress in minutes and lock in the five settings every new site should change on day one — written for Pakistani beginners.
WordPress installation is a five-minute job on modern hosting. The five minutes AFTER installation matter more. Here is both.
Installing (the short version)
1. Open your hosting portal and find the WordPress installer
2. Pick the website, set an admin username (not 'admin'), a strong password and your email
3. Click install — files and database are created for you
4. Log in at yoursite.com/wp-admin
On Kairalmas this is one click from the Websites page, and your sign-in is shown once so you can save it.
The 5 settings to change on day one
1. Permalinks: Settings → Permalinks → 'Post name'. Cleaner URLs, better SEO — do this before publishing anything
2. Tagline and timezone: set Asia/Karachi so scheduled posts publish on Pakistani time
3. Delete defaults: remove the Hello World post, Sample Page and unused themes (keep one default theme as backup)
4. Comments: disable comments on pages, require approval sitewide — Pakistani business sites rarely benefit from open comments
5. Install a caching + SEO plugin pair, and nothing else yet
Security in two more minutes
- Admin username that is not 'admin' or your name
- A password from a manager, not your head
- Updates weekly — outdated plugins are the #1 hack route in Pakistan
What hosting adds
Free SSL (padlock without buying anything), daily file versioning, and NVMe speed so even a default install feels quick. That is the whole stack — now go write your first real page.
