If your current registrar's renewals shock you or support ghosts you, transferring is the fix. Here is the process.
Before the transfer (at the OLD registrar) 1. Unlock the domain ('transfer lock' off) 2. Request the auth/EPP code 3. Confirm admin email is current — approvals land there 4. Timing: not within 60 days of registration or a previous transfer (ICANN rule), and never let it expire mid-process
The transfer itself 1. Start the transfer at Kairalmas with the auth code 2. Approve the confirmation email 3. The registry moves it — usually within hours, up to 5–7 days worst case
What does NOT change - Your website, hosting and DNS (if DNS stays pointed correctly) - Your email records (verify MX stays intact) - Ownership — it stays yours; transfers just change the registrar managing it
One caution: a transfer typically adds a year of registration (billed), so compare the bundled price against renewal-then-transfer.
